Eligibility Criteria
- Colorectal/General Surgery: Patients receiving any major abdominal surgery
- Pancreatic: Patients receiving pancreatic surgery
- Vascular: Patients receiving a significant open or minimally invasive vascular procedure
- Ortho Joints: Patients receiving a total hip or knee replacement
- Ortho Oncology: Patients set to receive a surgery for a soft tissue or bony tumor, or to receive chemotherapy to treat one of these tumors
Virtual Recruitment
We call patients to explain the study background and how to participate. If a patient decides to enroll in the expansion arm, we mail their Fitbit and call them for setup once it’s arrived.
Participation Timeline
Expansion patients are recruited and enrolled 1-2 weeks before their surgery. During a postoperative visit, a Wearables team member visits expansion patients to review questions and check-in. Patients can wear their watch for 3 months after surgery, or opt-into our 5-year extension program.
Note: Patients in our ortho oncology group are recruited 2 weeks before they begin treatment (if it involves chemo or radiation). If these patients undergo surgery, they continue watch wearing for 90 days after. If they receive treatment after surgery, they wear a watch for or for up to 2 years after their chemotherapy/radiation.
