Zhengyu Fang
Data Analyst
Zhengyu Fang is a Ph.D. student in computer science at Case Western Reserve University under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Li and
Dr. Jing Li.
He is a co-investigator of the Wearables Study. Specifically, he contributes to quality control assessments for our wearable data. His current research focuses on AI for Science, Time-Series Data, Graph Neural Networks, and Diffusion Models. He also enjoys swimming and tennis.
Xiao Li, PhD
Co-Investigator
Dr. Xiao Li is an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University. During her Ph.D. study, she received both computational and biological training under the supervision of Drs. Quaid Morris and Howard Lipshitz at the University of Toronto. During her postdoctoral training, she led the wearable team in Dr. Michael Snyder’s lab at Stanford University and performed the groundwork for the proposed research by investigating the impact of wearable devices on health management.
Dr. Li is highly motivated to use machine learning techniques to integrate genomic, clinic, and digital data to monitor changes during healthy and diseased states and improve the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases. She developed change-of-heart algorithm to use wearable-measured resting heart rate for early warning of infectious diseases, and which has been applied to flag and trace various health and disease conditions, such as COVID.
Joe Powell, MS
Data Analyst
Joe Powell is a Ph.D. Candidate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Li, Ph.D. His current research focuses on the use of physiological big data, statistical analysis, and machine learning to generate and understand the deep phenotypic presentation of disease.
He also helps with the development of software and systems needed to perform high-throughput, data-driven research. Previously, Joe received his Master’s in Physiology and Bachelor’s in Biotechnology degrees from Indiana University.
Kyle Webster
Data Analyst
Kyle Webster is a research assistant for the Wearables study. He graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and is currently working toward a JD/MS biochemistry dual degree at Case Western Reserve University.
Kyle has worked with Dr. Li for over a year. In addition to Wearables, Kyle has a background in neurodegenerative disease research from his time at Wright State. He aspires to be a patent attorney, where he can marry his legal practice with his love for science.
Lizi Zhang
Data Analyst
Lizi Zhang is a Ph.D. Candidate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Li, Ph.D. Her research centers on understanding the role of RNA-binding proteins in human diseases, aiming to uncover therapeutic opportunities.
Additionally, she contributes to wearable technology studies by leveraging digital data to monitor physiological changes during diseased states, enhancing preventive healthcare strategies. Outside the lab, Lizi enjoys hiking, cooking, and making the most of Cleveland’s cherished warm weather through outdoor activities.
