In the summer of 2024, Wearables expanded to include additional surgical populations.
Expansion Goals
Many abdominal surgeries and orthopedic surgeries have enhanced recovery pathways that help accelerate their inpatient care and ultimately support patients returning home sooner. Smart watches can monitor the recovery of these patients.
We aim to monitor recovery, postoperative events, and motivation.
[Above]: Depiction of expansion goals to capture recovery, postoperative events, and motivation.
Our team is interested in using wearable devices to monitor patient recovery and complication experiences as they return to the comfortable and familiar setting of home. After further developing our NightSignal algorithm, we hope that predicting postoperative events will allow clinicians to evaluate patients, and if necessary intervene, sooner. This would reduce the number of patients who return to the hospital and would lower morbidity risks after surgery.
Finally, our team would like to evaluate the impact of wearable devices in patient motivation after surgery. We will monitor whether the watches motivate patients to track their recovery and if their quality of life in the postoperative period is improved based on the interactive nature of the watches and ability for patients to see their progress.
