Mission

Our team is interested in how biometric data collected from personal wearable devices, such as a Fitbit, can be used understand physiological processes associated with post-surgery recovery and complications after surgery.

Study Background

[Left]: Laptop with graph demonstrating that our algorithm can detect complications before the start of symptoms.

When you wear a Fitbit, certain biometric data such as your heart rate is measured. By participating in Wearables, this data is anonymously sent to our analytics team at Case Western. Together, we monitor participants’ biometrics and post-operative surgical outcomes to build an algorithm that can predict post-operative complications prior to the start of symptoms.

This trial is registered with the National Institutes of Health under NCT04824066
